Rebuilding - III.5

If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends (gotta get with my friends)
Make it last forever friendship never ends,
If you wanna be my lover, you have got to give,
Taking is too easy, but that's the way it is.

What do you think about that now you know how I feel,
Say you can handle my love are you for real,
I won't be hasty, I'll give you a try
If you really bug me then I'll say goodbye.

Mid Week Update?

Still injured, it's pretty serious.  Went to the doctor today.  She doesn't think it's a stress fracture but she can't rule it out.  I am off the treadmill for 2 weeks.  However, I will continue with my swim and cycling as they aren't really load bearing exercises.

I was vitamin D deficient for a while.  My vitamin D levels just normalized.  Which is the reason why I am worried about a stress fracture.  However, the doc say's she thinks its inflammation in my tendons.  I will update next week. Until then cycling/swim only and taking it easy.

Team PAWS

I am thinking of joining Team PAWs for my races.  If I were to race I would need to start raising some money.  Right now with my injury I am weary about joining.  I am volunteering though. If you think it'd be great for me to wear a Team PAWS jersey let me know.

Rebuilding - III

I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it

I liked it

Importance Of Sleep Cycles

In the overall scheme of being healthy. Something as simple as sleep is vital to keeping homeostasis. I didn't sleep right for two weeks and I've been victim to a variety of different issues. The junk food of course didn't help with this but in combination they are a horrible pair (sleep deprivation and junk food). I'm not going to say "never again" but at least I know the consequences of my actions. Being healthy means doing everything right, eating sleeping and exercise. (Tri-force of health)

Someone once told me that they had a friend lose ton of weight eating junkfood but burning tons of calories on the treadmill. It is possible but it won't make you feel good.

Metabolism

I find that my metabolism is affected by my rest cycle as well. Too much rest my metabolism slows to a crawl, same with too little rest. Changing your eating habits also changes your metabolism. Realize that the changes are subtle and take time to develop I eat lots of small meals and snacks throughout the day to keep my metabolism functioning. It was only after a few months of this that my metabolism really changed.

Metabolism isn't how many calories you burn in a day. Your metabolism is what your body does to live. People often mistake metabolism for calorie burns. The bigger picture is different. How fast you heal, how fast you recover, your mood, your senses are all affected by your metabolism.

Running INJURY!!!!

Yes folks, I screwed up. I over did it on running in my five fingers. I understand what they mean by breaking them in. You aren't breaking them in so much as you are developing muscles for barefoot running. I believe I've exhausted my muscles that hold up my arches/toes. If I continue to run with these exhausted muscles it may lead to stress fractures which take months to heal. Sufficed to say I will be off the treadmill for at least another week.

Swimming

Swimming has also been affected by my injury. I kick off the side of the pool between laps so in order to do that I need to put load on my toes. However, I did swim my 35 laps on Wednesday evening. I also swam Monday and Tuesday. I love swimming.

Notes

Not going to the gym for 2 days is killing me seriously. I want to go and I'm thinking about it today. I feel like someone with OCD when their OCD sense tingles.

So for the lackluster update here. I gave you two funnies.

Rebuilding - II

I'm not afraid to take a stand
Everybody come take my hand
We'll walk this road together, through the storm
Whatever weather, cold or warm
Just let you know that, you're not alone
Holla if you feel that you've been down the same road
-----

It was a rough week. Not only did I make it I beat my weekly quota!

Rest Is Important

If I've learned anything this week is that you can't over do it. I've been extraordinarily tired this week. Less sleep more junk in my system. I am not a happy boy.  I had a Monster Energy drink once or twice a day everyday this week.  Only 6 hours of sleep as well. My mental capacity was well suited but physically I was drained.

I was also eating more junk food.  Superbowl Sunday had left me with a bit of leftovers.  I had mac and cheese and pork roast. Recipe here Food Network. The pork roast, I threw some salt and pepper and garlic powder and roasted it for a bit.

Running

Five Fingers

I definitely feel a different spring to my step. Different muscles taking over getting stronger. It's certainly could have contributed to my overall physical drain. I think it is a good kind of tired though.  It's certainly true that you need to start out slow in these things. You are building a different running stride. You can feel different muscles being used. I can feel my calves more than anything now.

Would I go back to my cross trainers? I'd go another week or two with these five fingers and switch between them and cross trainers. It would cause muscle confusion and help with my training in the long run I believe. Just like how swimming and cycling have different dynamics and use different muscle groups.

Yoga Update

Yoga, made me sleepy. I'm still not incredibly flexible like the instructor is but I am getting a bit better. The guy has no problem doing a full split. Wednesday as I said in my last post is stretch yoga or yin yoga. I need do this more often during the week but Wednesday is the only day that is offered up for this.  There is a hot yoga on Monday's but I have prior engagements.

I am going to continue doing Yoga as I can definitely feel a benefit to this. Just like in swimming I feel calmer.  I can think and be alone in my thoughts. It is genuinely rewarding.

The Funnies

Two things made me crack up this week.  I mean, lots of things make me crack up but these two specifically.

The first, while on the treadmill my phone kept moving over to the right had to keep pushing it back like a typewriter.  Ran .10 miles DING, slide phone back, continue running.

The second I met my collar bone for the first time. I mean I really noticed it. Then I started to notice my arms being toned from all the swimming I am doing.

I felt sexy.

That's how I felt.

2013 Bucket List

Take that 2013 bucket list  In January I biked, swam and ran a combined 105 miles (16500 kcals, 3rd highest month to date)  Time to break that record for February. It has been a great month. I've done more in physical training and social interaction than I ever have.Volunteering, trivia nights, dates oh my.

Week in Review

Five Finger Shoes & Running

My week has consisted of a few 5k runs and an 8k run. I also do one mile speed runs to gauge how far I am progressing.  My fastest one mile run to date has been 8 minutes 43 seconds. I hope to beat this time in the middle of February. However we all know treadmill times do not mimic real world conditions so we need to take this into consideration when really understanding times/records.

On another note of running, I am down a pair of shoes. They are all muddied up from paintball last week. I've been wearing a pair of Vibram Five Fingers.  Running is not extraordinarily different in them however my calf's have a new sensation of pain. The pain has passed.  I noticed without toe socks on I am susceptible to blisters in my Five Fingers.  I will need to experiment more and report back on this.

Biking

I haven't made many strides in cycling this past week.  It is the off season after all. However, a friend of mine bought herself a new tri bike and it is gorgeous.  I'm filled with envy. Congratulations The Iron Shecky and her bike Fiona! Theironshecky.shectman.com

Swimming

Swimming is doing wonders toning my upper body. A year of cycling has certainly toned my legs but made them disproportional to my top. Sometimes I think I am a muffin and I tip over easily. Swimming sculpting me very well. I look in the mirror sometimes and say "dat collarbone." New record in swiming 1650 meters in 53 minutes (1 mile). I wear my tri gear constantly so I can go swimming right after biking and running. At first it was a bit tight. I also get stares at the gym sometimes too because its like skin tight spandex but I look fabulous.
How I feel when people stare.

Other news

Yoga

I did some yoga this week with a friend of mine from work. It's thanks to her that I've gotten into running and actual races. Yoga was amazing. I've never been really flexible. I think with yoga I will gain some flexibility.  It also helps after a long run. At first I was skeptical but after the pain in my calf's seemingly melted away I know yoga is worth some deeper investigation. I will start out once a week.

New workout partner

I picked up a new friend and a new workout partner. We're training each other in different things. Working out with someone is a great thing. It helps pass the time quicker and you get more enjoyment out of your workout. At least I do with my workout partner. It makes me push myself harder, better, faster, stronger. Padawan, you will get to where you want to be.  Keep up the good work!

Also a shout out to http://runningforredvelvet.blogspot.com for inviting me out for some arcade fun at GameWorks.
