The arena is empty except for one man,
Still driving and striving as fast as he can.
The sun has gone down and the moon has come up,
And long ago somebody left with the cup.
But he's driving and striving and hugging the turns

I've started something that I couldn't have imagined i'd ever start before.
I'm running, biking, swimming. When you put those together you get
a triathlete. I'm just starting now and its becoming more than just
a hobby. It's almost a way of life for me now. Someone called me
an athlete once. I was a bit in shock to hear it. I was never
really fit before.
Athlete: a person who is trained or skilled in excerises, sports, or games requiring physical strength, agility, or stamina ~ Merriam Webster Dictionary
At first I was scared of the new title. I felt I needed to achieve unrealistic goals to portray what I thought being an athlete meant. I'm no Usain Bolt, Lance Armstrong(even after the whole doping thing), or Michael Phelps. After running my first 5k I realized that is not what being an athlete is all about. It's about loving what you do and wanting to share your inspiration with others.
My first 5k, the Warm Your Heart 5k in Chicago IL. It was an amazing experience. I will always remember it. It was my first competitive race ever. I didn't go to compete with others I went to finish. I surpassed my goals and I earned it where it counts. Passing that finish line meant so much more to me than finishing. It meant I had started a new life. People who know me know that is true on many levels.

I really started this blog as a place to track my progress and give myself an incentive to keep going. I'm going to update at least once or twice a week and keep up with my training. After all I have the Shamrock Shuffle in little under 4 months.
Thanks For Reading.

I love your redefinition of the word athlete! It's something that will definitely motivate me to keep at it when I feel like I'm not living up to the standards that society sets for "athletes". I can't wait to see how far you will go. :)
